Optimized Dual ASTM Water System for Therapeutics Facility Expansion

PPT engineered an integrated dual-stream RO/DI system to deliver both ASTM Type I and Type II water for a therapeutics facility expansion. By leveraging the Type II system as feed to the Type I skid, the design reduced redundancy, improved efficiency, and provided high-performance water quality within a cost-effective, scalable architecture.

The Customer

A therapeutics customer building a new facility required both ASTM Type IA and ASTM Type II water streams in the facility. This was a critical expansion as they were consolidating operations and had a tight timeline.

The Challenge

Providing two separate streams of Pure Water without overbuilding a system that would be costly and cumbersome to maintain. System design is very different for both types of systems requiring careful consideration.

The Solution

PPT worked with the project engineer to identify that using the ASTM Type II skid as a feed to the Type IA skid reduced unnecessary redundancy with RO make-up, streamlined operational efficiency and brought service costs in line with expectations.

The Outcome

The solution proved to be exceptional regarding performance as the Type IA Skid produces TOC’s in the low (2ppb) single digit range while generating 18.2 Meg/ohm water. The Type II Skid also delivers water well within specification which makes easy work for the Type 1A Skid.
